Yes it is. It's not legal to force you to though. He asked it as a favor.....whether you do or not is your choice.

I don't know whether it's illegal or not, but I would SERIOUSLY consider getting another job. If your employer asks you not to cash your paycheck for a few days, s/he and/or the company is living really close to the bone. The next thing s/he'll be doing is not even giving you the paycheck when it's due, but holding off on even giving it to you - maybe then followed by the request that you hold it for a few more days. You could find yourself behind the eight ball with this company in no time!
I'd really consider getting out and lining up something elsewhere with a more fiscally responsible company, sooner rather than later.
Good luck.

Assuming you are talking about a paycheck you received on your normally scheduled payday, and the check is dated that day, you have the legal right to cash/deposit it if you wish.
If they ASK - as in asking a favor - that isn't breaking the law. If you can afford those couple of days, the brownie points might be worth it - so long as they don't make a habit of it.
However, you have every right to decline (politely would be a good idea) and it IS against the law fo them to either coerce you or attempt any retribution for it.

They can ask, but it is not legal for them to require you to hold it. I would if you want to make sure it clears, but I would really take this as a very serious sign that it is time to find a new employer that has the money to pay their employees.

Seems to me that your employer has overspent and has no money left in the Bank. But that shouldn't matter that much as most companies at the end of the month are in the "Red" after paying their accounts.
I would bank the cheque. Don't forget that you have to have money to live.

If you quit, three business days.
If you were fired, you are to be paid on the spot.
If you like broke **** as you left and did some slim shady stuff, then they could probably hold it.
This is all California law that I'm basing my answer on by the by.

If you are supposed to get payed on the 10th, and they ask you to not cash it on the 12th, no, it is not legal. BUT, to not burn bridges, and keep your boss happy, a couple of days is not a big deal. Remember tho, the loop hole is, they CAN legaly change the "pay period", and screw you that way. :/

NO. That tells me you might want to find another job. Cause if you cash that check it is gonna bounce. He apparently doesn't have the money to pay you. And that says your job in not real secure. I would be looking in the help wanted ads. Good luck.

If it's a private situation, yes, but you aren't legally obligated to do it. If you're woking for a company of some kind, though, then they should ALWAYS pay you ontime.

If he asks you to hold it after your regular pay day, then it's illegal. He has to pay you the day you're supposed to be paid. After all, you have bills to pay too! It's not your fault he doesn't have the funds.
