It's a context issue. When black people say it to each other it's usually used as a word signifying a cultural or racial bond. When white people say it they usually mean it in a negative way. Who invented it has nothing to do with it.

ps: I laughed at the person making the point about the use of the word coloured. "They arn't rainbows...". Quote of the day!

The word came from a spanish word, *****, meaning black . I don't think people should use the word at all if you look at the word's origins. The history behind black people using the word dates back to slavery. Old slaves would call the new slaves the "n word" so that they would get used to being called that, and wouldn't be surprised when the white man called them that. Also don't call people of color "colored" it is rude and offensive.

The be conscious has racist connotations. besides the undeniable fact that, as with many words which may be derogatory in the direction of a team, the team itself can appropriate the be conscious and use it in a greater constructive way. it rather is the thank you to take administration - to teach a weapon right into a plaything. So, in a matching way, gays can use the term 'queer', and ladies began utilising the be conscious 'chick' returned after some women had spent years castigating men for utilising it.

I don't know who "invented" the word but it becomes a symbol of ethnic pride, a history of shared suffering. So, black people can use the N word among themselves. If someone outside the group uses it, it takes on its old pejorative meaning. It is sort of like Polish people who use Pollock or Italians use Wop.

The white man saying it then was derogatory. So it makes sense that now it is still seen that way when it comes from a white man. Black people using it isn't derogatory. I don't think it's good to use it any time by any one due to its dark, degrading meaning.

Because it's more offensive coming from whites, obviously.

I don't agree with the usage of the word from anyone, but anyone can see that's why this is so.

Black people say the word out of deep self hatred whether we admit it or not.

White people WANT to say the word out of deep hatred whether they admit it or not.
