I give him clean water every morning before I eat breakfast. There usually is just a little bit of water left in his bottle. But in the past 2 weeks his water is completely gone by 6-7 pm that evening. And I've been checking for leakage and it isn't leaking at all. He is a year and 3 months old. He has a large water bottle. I'm concerned that he may have a medical condition that is making him drink more water. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

First, make sure "he" isn't a "she." If so, and if your pet has been exposed to another male (and you should never have just 1 guinea pig) pregnancy is possible, especially if you also notice an increase in food consumption.

If you have a male, then the bottle is probably leaking. Check by fitting an air-tight cap on it, then dunk it into a sink of full of water. If tiny bubbles rise to the surface, you have a leaky bottle. If the bubbles are large, find a tighter cap.

Finally, it may be hot where you live, or perhaps you still have the thermostat high from the winter? The little guy might be getting too warm. Buy a couple of bricks (can usually find them for less than 50 cents a piece at any hardware or gardening store) and place them in a shady area, preferably a hiding spot. The bricks will stay cool, and help him remain cool as well. By moving around on them, they'll also help keep his nails trimmed.

He may not be drinking it all. You could have a leak in the bottle. It could be so small that you don't notice it. Hold it up for a while to see what happens when you fill it uop tomorrow. I'm sure he's fine. It's when they DONT drink that you should worry.

Only worry is that your Guinea pig may be pregnant.
