I have a 125-gallon tank that has been up and running for over a year now. I haven't had any problems with fish loss until recently. When I went to feed this morning, I noticed all 4 of my Cory's dead. Their body conditions appeared to be perfectly healthy and I routinely maintain the tank. All of my other fish (2 Angels, 6 Silver Dollars, 2 Red-finned barbs, 1 Pleco & 1 clown loach) still appear to be in perfect health. I am at a loss as to what happened. I don't know how to explain the death of 4 of the same species of fish at the same time. I have not added additional fish to the tank for about 4 months. I have not seen any signs of bullying. Any answers would be helpful, I am at a complete loss.

I have had these Cory's in the same environment for 2 years. Nothing in the condition of the environment has changed. It is kept clean & they appeared healthy. I am still puzzled. I cannot accept the possibility that it just happened. I really need to know why, especially when all of my other fish were unharmed.

I had a similar problem a few years ago. It's possible it is your clown loach. there great community fish but sometimes get territorial. These fish have spines located under their eyes and used as a defense mechanism or to attack other fish.Which is why it drives you crazy you don't see any physical damage and water conditions were fine. I know it sounds crazy i had to do some research on it my self when i lost a whole shipment of Cory's, due to one 5 inch clown loach . It was a learning experience

I don't blame you for being at a complete loss. I always am too when things like this happen. For years I would always try to find the cause and only on the most rare occasion was I ever able to find any reason for sudden deaths like you describe. Possiblities include such things as tainted food, genetic problems and water conditions but I personally would exclude the possibility of disease organisms given your tank history.

Try not to let it bother you too much, somethings we will just never know.

Without knowing any further specifics I am inclined to think and aswk about water condition. Corys are not the hardiest of fish and many times if water condition goes outside their preferred norms they simply falter and die. Check PH and hardness and compare to known norms for the species you had.

I had a similar problem with one particular breed of cory while all my others were thriving. Turned out to be the Ph, pure and simple and I have given up my desire to have one of that variety.

Hope this helps.

It might have either been your angels or barbs... but I think it was your barbs though. They are semi-aggressive and like to fight or nip pick at other fishes fins. So I'd suggest to get rid of your barb and put it in another tank quickly before it kills your other fish. I hope this helps your fish survive! Oh, P.S., check your water quality, it might have been that because cories are sensitive to water hardness or something. OK, bye! :-)

it could be that the water conditions and temperature of the water were not right for the cory's.
