I have 1 goldfish. It has been livng for 6 years. It is a super goldsih, or at least I think so. 2 times, it jumped out of its tank landing in it with a big SPLASH! On the 3rd time, at landed on the carpet. Next, my dad droped gravel on it, almost crushing it. Its right fin nearly got ripped of. My family and I don't really do water changes for it. However, the goldfish is still in great health. Is this a super goldfish? Tell me why or why not, please.
P.S. All these accidents happened this month. About 20 more happened in its past years.

LOL. My goldfish I got five years ago kept getting bigger for awhile. He got really big. Your fish is probably the same way. It's bigger, has more muscle, and is tougher. My goldfish died after five years of old age. (most goldfish in tanks live about a year or two)

Goldfish can live to 50 years old and 25 yrs isn't uncommon as long as they are in a tank large enough that it doesn't stunt their growth (minimum of 30 gallons). they are extremely hardy fish. You definitely need a top on the tank. Goldfish are jumpers and the next time he jumps out of the tank, there may not be anyone there to put him back in. A couple hours on the carpet and he will be dried up and dead.
Water changes are a must, especially with goldfish which are extremely messy. The level of nitrate is probably off the chart. And nitrate is poisonous at high levels just like ammonia and nitrite. Is he in a tank with a filter? Most likely, the only reason he has survived so far is because goldfish can lie through most anything.

Sounds like you need to have the water level a bit lower in your tank so your fish doesn't keep jumping out. It would be a shame if you were gone from home when it jumped out - or asleep during the night. It doubt it would be that super that it could survive many hours out of the water. My fish are 6-7 inches long and jump all the time, but I keep the water level 3 inches from the top, so they can't jump out - at least they haven't so far... They also are about 5 years old.

Gold fish, are tough little devils, they don't die easly compared to alot of other fish. I'm not really surprised i had a goldfish born with out a tail lived for 7 beatiful years then it got ick when i was away so it died but goldfishare so tough they can be frozen alive anmd when thawed will still be alive, don't try it you have to slowley lower the temp and slowly higher the temp but u get the idea, My golfish was out side in a pond when a crow i think attacked it his fin was shredded and he was bleeding from the side but he lived amazingly, until 3 months later the crow came back and ate him1 he couldn't survive that :)

good job, it takes dedication to raise such a healty gold fish!
I don't know if it "super"or not but maybe it's happy to see you or happy to live so long. My turtle is always making noises or doing somthing to get my attention and my fish seem more active if I pay attention to them. He could just be a hyper active nut like my one hermit crab. Maybe he needs more room to swim how big is he? How big is your tank? my rule is that if the tank can fit 6-10 of the fish lengh wise they got plenty of room also remember to give it hiding places and toys to investigate( I've found that gold fish like to play in the bubble currents made by an airator connected to an air stone.)Also no matter how clean the water looks you sould change 25% a month. not doing so would be like drinking a glass of water, then peeing in the glass, filter it, and drinking it again GET NEW WATER!!!!!

It hurts me to read about your goldfish. He deserves better. You should be able to provide it a better life. But they are easy to abuse aren't they; I mean, what can they do about it? Who is the brute? Change the water, and keep it covered. It should be covered anyway to keep dirt out of his water. You took him out of his natural environment, and it your duty to provide for him.
Yes, he is a super goldfish. Too bad he belongs to you.
