The 1st three responders obviously aren't from Philly.

Cheesteaks are not automatically served with ketchup, but it is perfectly acceptable to put ketchup on a cheese steak. For me personally it depends where you get one. If I'm at Jim's on South Street or at Pat's, then yes, I use ketchup. If I'm at Mamma's in Bala Cynwyd, then no.

a cheesesteak by definition is a roll with meat and cheese. You can put a variety of things on them ketchup being one of them

No- but people do put ketchup on them, along with fried onions, mushrooms, pepperroni, bacon, green pepper, pizza cheese & Sauce, etc...

no.....unless you ask for ketchup on them otherwise its a thin cut beef in a cheese.......i think im going to make one now :)
