The economy is still rolling along with 4.5% unemployment, rising incomes and rising wages, close to THREE YEARS after the Fed began a series of 17 straight interest rate hikes.

Bush spends too much, the deficit and debt are out of whack, but the increase in the tax base, resulting from the economy's increased ability to reinvest its own earnings (i.e., the tax cut) has produced increased revenue, offsetting about half the deficit spending - meaning if we ever just froze spending where it is, even in real dollars, we'd soon have a surplus.

There are more poor people than there were before but only by about 1/3 the number of extremely poor people who have emmigrated here illegally alone.

Yes the war is going badly and yes he spends too much but damn, when does he get any credit for the robust economy?

And please don't give me this crap about "oh it's not robust for me." The numbers don't lie.

Um, Squawk, the source for the unemployment rate is the BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS.

Thank you for putting the truth out there for all to read. Too bad you're going to get a hammering by those who don't like the fact that the economy is doing well despite all of the outside influences and challenging situations that influence it.

The economy is not rolling along! Inflation is on the rise and corporations are cutting hours and health care! Jobs are still being shipped overseas and housing starts are the lowest they have been in 39 years!

You forgot the additional 3 1/2 Trillion in debt that Bush has run up! people who earn between $44,000 and $200,000 are going to get slammed with taxes, and many recognized that as many crossed over and voted Democrat last November (The rich don't pay taxes, just the little people_Leona Helmsley).

Tax cuts for the wealthy didn't increase revenue, they never do! Ask David Stockman and Ronald Reagan! In addition it is stupid! Steal from the poor to give to the rich in hopes that some you stole may trickle down to those you stole it from! No wonder they called it Voodoo economics!

What has propped up Bush's economy is the war. He has made 500 new millionaires off of blood money from Iraq while our military still do not have armored humvee's! Wars always increase revenue....for some! One-half this country earns between $5,000 and $30,000.

While I can't speak for all Liberals, and I am not truely a libral anyways. The reason I get so angry over the war is because I am losing friends, and I have to watch friends lose their husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters...to a war that they don't even believe in. It is not really a matter about the economy, which I have not really seen the benefit of.

My problem comes when I know my husband fought over there, could have ended his life over there, had friends that did die over there, and they knew from the start it was based on lies, and as the war goes on more and more of my military friends do not believe in the cause they go over there for. It also comes when we spend Billions a day over there while Places like New Orleans still have not recovered from katrina, and the progress that has been made has not been made by Government funds, but rather by state and non-profit agencies. It makes me mad when I see Billions going to Iraq, when in fact my mother who is a teacher does not even have books for her class room, and is barely supplied enough tables and chairs for her students. So yes while you can put out numbers that make the economy look robust, I too could find numbers to say just the opposite if I wanted to. That is the thing about statistics, you can make them say what you want them too, without technically lieing..... I may not have quoted any numbers, but I quoted life as I have witnessed it...which also cant be denied.

Even assuming your analysis to be correct, the fact of the matter is that some people actually consider the lives of Americans to be worth more than a percentage of unemployment.
There are 26% more people living in poverty than there was when he took office, you can feel free to discuss this with them, but they are working two minimum wage jobs and may not get back to you too quickly, by your lights, its Bushs good work that has given them the opportunity to work 80 hour weeks and still not have health insurance, and you'd be right.
Bush also has done less than nothing to tighten our borders or our ports, even as the shoes of grandmas are removed and examined.
This economy is built on extremely shaky foundations, as the recent debacle in the housing segment shows, it is the vast middle and lower class that is getting shafted at the benefit of the less than 3% of top earners and inheritors. The bill is coming due for all that money $320 Billion for the war, that's a lot of Cheez Whiz for your average American to kick in. Who's going to pay it now the the upper class has had their taxes cut, well...open your wallet.
And that's no lie.

If you can't see how this country has been run into the ground since 2000...

Even previous Bush had a brain-cell...

Robust economy...borrowing $$$ from the Chinese to fund a multi-trillion dollar war...

The perception is we are OK. The reality is(as a nation) we are driving a leased luxury car, living paycheck-to-paycheck, and pretending we have our act together...so much for the shock-n-awe until the harshness of reality comes to light.

4.5% unemployement...WHAT new jobs are we creating...Taco Bell? Hotels? Credit Shams(aka CC companies, escrow companies, real-estate companies)...service industries...all we do NOW is wipe peoples a s s e s, since also as a nation, we are dumb as a box of rocks!

Numbers...yes, you might ask yourself since 2000 why the price of a home has tripled, and the same for gas. Robust does not mean jack when the average American is nickled and dimed to death by corp USA.

You're right, the numbers do not lie. There has been an increase in revenue. However, expenditures are still much, much greater than income, and even cutting the deficit in half, (which hasn't been the case) would not help us at this point.

EDIT: Da Coach, Elway is above you. You must not be that great of a coach if you don't know up from down

I'm not a liberal, but I'm upset. I'm upset with the stink of corruption coming out of the White House. It upsets me even more that this stink is coming from those who have acted so self-righteously for six long years. Acting as though they were so above the previous administration, acting as though they are morally superior to anyone who isn't a Republican, just all the frigging acting. The manipulated intelligence to start a war that was a personal obsession for Bush, the relegating of the real War on Terror to the backseat to feed that obsession, the constant spin we get every time someone from the White House opens their lying trap. Yep, this moderate is one upset voter and I can't wait to see George Bush and the Republicans ushered out of their kingdom on January 20, 2009. It just can't come soon enough. Screw the focus on the economy upswing. I don't care how you spin it, I had more money in the bank under Clinton and now my oldest son is asking me why he and his children are going to have to pay for Bush's War. Enough.

EDIT: Da Coach, what is your problem? You don't know the first thing about me. I never said anything about Clinton being honorable, though I'm not even sure which Clinton you are referring to. The former President had his problems, but next to Bush he looks like a damn saint. Hillary's got my vote, and trust me, it isn't because I'm left wing. I'm as moderate as an Independent can get.

You didn't even answer this question, all you did was flame me with a bunch of b.s. that isn't even true. My, how flattering to capture your attention, now run along.

Historically, war has always boosted the economy.

4.5% unemployment must mean illegal immigrants aren't hindering anyone looking for a job like you constantly hear from cons.

The man took a surplus and turned it into a historic deficit. We pay 3x what we used to from gas and his family's wealth comes from oil.

The rest of the world thinks we're an aggressive nation that will go to war with whomever we want.

Well, I'm glad you feel comfortable that you have enough personal knowledge of everyone else's finances that you can say that it's great for them.

Good for you, being so all-knowing.

By the way, what do you think is going to happen to that robust economy when all the bills for the war in Iraq come due?

2007-03-27 18:11:40 · answer #9 · answered by Bush Invented the Google 6 · 5 1

they have to pay for it. Just think how good the economy would be with out the huge war debit.
you have decent health care system for the cost of Iraq

you seem to have forgotten its not a war it is a search for WMD.
You seem also to have forgotten there were no terrorists in Iraq before the USA let them in. Bin Laden and Saddam were enemies. However Saddam was competent in controlling them , Bush is incompetent
