Quoting out of Kotz 6th edition Chem book, it says in the index:

"The gradual mixing of the molecules of two or more substances by random molecular motion."

In my own definition, is basically how things travel through-out another liquid/gas area. Think of putting food coloring in a glass of water, and it slowly creeps throughout the water. Same idea of diffusion.
