Virtual reality. I think they are going to perfect it and make it seem like the game is really going on around you. We still have a long way to go to really make it outstanding.

youre wondering about this already...sheesh!...its gonna be a long time till the next games console comes out!...

Put it this way...the next Windows operating system wont be out till about 2015 so dont expect the next X-Box to come out till around that time

As for Playstations I dont see them untill maybe the year after (possibly longer seeing as they are struggling with the PS3 but that may push them to work harder and bring out the next one before the next X-Box...unlikely though)

Nintendo well who the heck knows with them!...since when has Nintendo ever followed suit with the rest of the industry! I think they will be first onto the market next time round though...late 2013 to early 2014

Now for the next Gen specs

Definition:
High Definition TVs are slowly coming down in price and analogue TV will be gone by then so it is likely that a lot of homes will have at least a 720i or p capable TV so we can see HD graphics from all parties as standard (including Nintendo...YAY!)...I dont believe that there will be a higher resulution at that stage but it may be on the cards... so if not next generation then the one after.

Disks:
Disk formats well that is a tough one...the PS3 has laid down the gauntlet with BluRay games and HD-DVD is yet to play the market as it is only an addon on the 360 so there is a good chance that the next gen consoles will use BluRay disks for their games (DVD wont be large enough to hold the games) although I can see Microsoft sticking with HD-DVD for their next gen games to reduce piracy

VR:
Virtual reality is already here and you can come pretty close to it with the Wii...just go out and buy a headset TV (or TV glasses...dunno what they are called)...basicly it is a set of glasses with small displays instead of lenses and the sides covered so all you can see is a display (Ive tried them...theyre pretty cool :P...expencive though)

The image:
Graphics and processing power by then will be incredible with quad core and soon 8 core CPUs available for PC's, the console world will become incredible, it will be hard to distinguish the difference between real life and TV...Your TV screen will look like a window into another room/world as the quality will be almost life like (its getting pretty close to that with the 360 and PS3)

Controllers:
All consoles will feature motion sensing controllers (and hopefully rumble features with it...dumb move by Sony there) provided they dont all try and sue each other for copying each other. As for they layout of the controllers the PS and X-Box wont change much, there may be some button modifications and slight layout changes and that might be it...Nintendo again we can only dream...I see the Gamecube controller coming back but being crossbred with a Wiimote...I wonder what that would look like?

Storage:
Hmm...this one is tricky...by then we will have Terrabytes coming out of our ears but I dont see Hard drives in the consoles larger than 200Gb maybe 320Gb...but we can always put our own in...The Nintendo will have a hard drive but I dont think it will be as big as the others...maybe only 120Gb (if those capacities are still around then)

New Entries and Names:
The names of the new consoles is going to be interesting...I dont think they will continue with their number scheme as it is getting old and boring...gaming systems then will be something to behold and will fashion a new scheme...they will keep the same name but instead of a number after it will be more letters like PS-DX (Playstation Deluxe) or PS -EX (Playstation Extreme...can anyone see that one as a bad move by sony if they went with that one!!! :S...) As for X-Box I see an extra word after it like X-Box Platinum or something cool sounding. And Nintendo...Who the hell knows...after the Wii they could do anything!...I think they might name the next console Revolution even though it was the project name of the Wii. As for new commers into the gaming world Commodore are back in the PC indistry and are producing true gaming PCs designed specificly for gaming, could this lead to an entry into the console world?! Could be interesting

Well these are my predictions for the next generation of gaming consoles, feel free to comment to me by email or whatever of you dont like what I have said or think I missed something :P
