If there is homework to be done it must be done. If help is needed it will come at the price of more homework. There will be no free rides. You have to prove you can do the work on your own should the teacher ask you this on a test. Good grades are expected so they are not rewarded for something that is a reward in and of itself. They are happy to get A's because that means they are smart. And then they can help others. Poor grades don't happen. It is too easy to prevent them. Check homework to see if the child is right and if not correct it with them. Knowledge should be free but not always easy. Failing says someone thought it was the other way around.

My parents did this (I am 22 now): Homework starts right when you get home (maybe a snack first). They did help when we needed it but made us figure it out on our own when they knew we could. No treat when they get good grades, but they did maybe take us out to eat or something at the end of the school year. Grounded from something that we loved when we got bad grades.

homework is to be done right after school and then i want to see it...if they get poor grades i start by taking away the thing they like the most...tv, outside, video games...if the grades keep dropping then i keep taking till theres nothing left to do but homework...as the grades improve they slowly get back each item 1 at a time....and yes i help w/ homework if needed

HW must be done B4 school. I don't believe in making kids spend 7 hrs in school & then coming home to do another 2 hrs of HW. There is life outside school. I will stay up late and/or wake up early to help with it. But there is such a thing as religion classes, sports, relatives, spending time outside and just relaxing & watching TV. NO video games during the week!

I am taking Honors sophomore classes as a freshman in high school, so my parents don't really help much.
I make straight A's almost every report card, and they give me money to spend on anything I want.
When I do poorly, my parents tell me to try harder and focus. They know that I have the potential to succeed at anything.

Homework starts the minute you walk in the door. Yes I will help. No reward for good grades. Dire consequences for bad ones.

Feed the pets first, then do your homework. Stop when it is dinner time. Do the dishes, and then head straight back to doing your work. No television. No load or fast- paced music. Focus on your work and nothing else. I have pretty strict parents.
