You've never heard of 'Whistlers Mother'??

Probably people trying to attract birds or something.

Whistling is sometimes seen as a way to bring bad luck because it calls up ill winds and it can make sailors get trapped in a storm or call up a big windstorm or something.

My mother likes to say, "Whistling women and crowing hens/Never come to no good ends!"

Probably because I asked her repeatedly to teach me how to whistle, she refused, and I figured it out on my own.

But I can't whistle through my teeth like she can 'cuz she got some BIG OL' spaces between her teeth like a jack-o'-lantern and the wind just whistles through them like through tree branches. HA!

Supposedly, women shouldn't whistle because if they do, they're witches calling up storms. I guess men don't call up storms when they whistle.

Sexist bastards! I can call up a storm if I want to! I'll whistle when I please!

maybe farmers during a hot summer day and while taking a rest and since they didn't bring any form of entertainment, they tried to purse their lips. lo! and behold a sound came out of their lips!.. thus whistling was born and the rest is history...lol!

They say it was a man named "Whistler," but it was really his mother.
