It's a personal preference on music tastes. Some people like rap, while others think it's crappy, and vice-versa. At least respect others music tastes and don't whine and harp about it...

All kinds of people hate rap, not just punk or metal fans. Rap isn't music; it's just loud, obnoxious talking. And loud, obnoxious talking loses its appeal when the people doing the talking show that they really have NOTHING TO SAY. Rap is stupid noise for stupid people. Rap promotes the stereotype of young blacks as an ignorant and immoral under-class.

Well, I don't like rap, but I do like ALL other kinds of music: classical, pop, country, raggae, punk, jazz, rock, etc... so, how is it that most of us that do hate rap like just about everything else out there and have a deep appreciation for music in general?

Like others have said, my problem with rap is that most of the messages conveyed suck, not necessarily the music. I can actually tolerate some Eminem even. And no, it's not because he's white, because I loooooooove Louis Armstrong. So again, figure that out.

I listen to punk. But I listen to a small amount of rap too.
Like the Beastie Boys and The Roots.
So I guess I don't fit your stereotype completely.
Punk is a lot like rap. The Casualties, Sex Pistols, Bad Brains, & Crass basically yell their lyrics.
Atleast rap artists put their words to a beat.
But by no means am I putting down my love for punk.

Most people that I have met that don't like hip-hop/rap aren't looking in the right places. The hip-hop that is on the radio is not representative of the whole culture, music, and lifestyle that hip-hop encompasses. When someone says that rap represents all these negative stereotypes, to me, thats like saying that all white people like to hunt deer, drink bud light, play cards, and watch jeff foxworthy which is completely off base. Hip-hop is about personal expression and individuality not unlike a lot of cultures and music. Unfortunately, music is also a business so when one type of song sells it leads to the conformity of the pop-rap. As a result common themes in radio rap include talking about hoes, rims, and drugs. If you truly give hip-hop a chance, you may still not like it but you will realize that it represents a lot more than these negative stereotypes. Listen to A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Blackstar, Wyclef Jean, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Lauryn HIll, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, Edan, De La Soul, early Busta Rhymes, Immortal Technique, or Reflection Eternal, just to name a few, and you'll realize just as Kenny G doesn't represent what jazz is that 50 Cent doesn't represent what hip-hop is. So, I guess my answer is the reason that people that tend to listen to punk don't like hip-hop because they are not educated about the hip-hop culture and only base their knowledge on stereotypes.

Wrong. I hate rap and I don't listen to punk or heavy metal. But I'll tell you how it is more music than rap. They actually play notes and have a melody. Music consists of melody and harmony and the songs have a form, etc. Rap is talking over a beat, and it's the same beat over and over. And the talking is pretty lame at that.

nicely i like Rap like Rage against The device, yet i like Pop like Amy Winehouse (in case you ought to even call that pop?) or Christina Aguilera as i think of they have solid voices. besides the undeniable fact that i do no longer extremely like rap which includes Kanye West or 50 Cent. I hate it while people say rap or pop is factor clean crap by way of fact it rather is rather narrow minded. Even lots of the classic rock bands comprise aspects of rap and pa. i could in all risk say I desire pop usual yet i'm able to work out rap has a place. Neither are considered one of my ordinary genres in spite of the undeniable fact that.

Mainly from my standpoint, most people who hate rap don't have anything else to listen to because rap is really the only 'popular' music these days. They have to play older songs on Top 40 music stations to fill in the gaps.

It is sad because rap music has nearly killed all other popular music.

Now the only genres today are rap, punk (you could just say everything else...)

au contraire my friend,
i hate rap and say it's not music and i listen to the greats such as Led Zeppelin, Guns 'n Roses, The Killers and the like.
You see, rap has no melody so it isn't music. Its just a bunch of guys making rhymes about objectifying women (which is fine, don't get me wrong) and having money to bass music.
