My friends' everyday, little anecdotes bore me to death. I get restless and bored when I'm with people. I try to steer the conversation towards their trips abroad, interesting experiences or insights, but all they want to is to "catch up" on the (unimportant to me) stuff that's happened in the last few days, such as what the repairman said is wrong with their TV.

You should join some clubs and do some courses, where you will meet more ambitious people.
I reccomend a theatre group or a writer's group as a starter, but you should spread your net widely.

You sound like a bit of a snob..... if you think all these little 'conversations' and 'anecdotes' are beneath you, go to the library and hang out in the foreign language or travel section.....
