I have to write a compare and contrast essay on 2 close friends. I'm not sure how to get started. I've never used this pattern before.

Alternate style means compare them THEN contrast them (back and forth) instead of doing both in one paragraph.

Opener/Thesis statement would like something like this:

The 80's group Depeche Mode once sang, "People are People." This profound statement means that while humans all fall under the same large categorization, they are still individuals. Although may share many similarities, they truly stand out as different people.
