I bought my daughter some child sized forks and spoons at the $1 store and let her start trying to use them just before she was a year old. Within about 2 or 3 months, she wasn't perfectly using them, of course, but she had the hang of it.

Mine started with a spoon just before 1. I'd say closer to 2 for a fork. Give him a spoon, and let him try. It will take a few weeks!

he should be starting to eat with a spoon or fork, but still not quite get it right. finger foods are good with this age. let him keep practicing and he'll get it. I had to give my daughter her spoon and feed her with another so she'd get enough to eat.

all babes are different. mine is 20 months and is just now learning how. before he would just throw them!! i got some toddler sized spoons and forks that are curved and chubby so their little hands can hold it just right. my other kids (i have 4) all learned at different times as well.

Sometimes it takes time to teach them, and sometimes they just don't want to learn because hands are easier. Most kids start between the ages of 2 and 2mths, to eighteen mths, keep working with your son, he will get it.
