Should these foreign guys who have been playing PROFESSIONAL baseball for years be considered for rookie of the year. Age makes no difference to me as a 30 year old in triple A player is not facing the same quality of hitting or pitching like someone who is playing professionally in Japan. A 30 year old minor leaguer can win rookie of the year. Now if that same 30 year old plays in japan for 2 + seasons then his rookie status can not be considered in the same light. Japenese professional teams are way better than american minor league clubs.

I don't believe that Japanese players should be allowed to qualify for Rookie of the Year. That is an insult to the Japanese league because they play high quality baseball.

They won the World Baseball Classic and they can play at the Major League level. So, a Japanese player who has played there for many years and comes to play in the States has Major league experience in a sense.

Japanese professional teams might be many times better than American minor league clubs, but there's only one Major League Baseball, and anyone who plays enough games to qualify for MLB's Rookie of the Year award without utilizing an unfair advantage (such as steroids, HGH, or whatever that substance was on Kenny Rogers' hand... but the definition of "unfair" doesn't include use of the Gyroball) should be eligible to win the honor.

I know you're asking this question because there's a legitimate chance that Matsuzaka will win the AL RoY award, so if his stats are better than any other AL rookie's stats, the award should be his.

If people think that players from Japan should NOT win ROY award, Then other countries like Mexico, Korea, Cuba, Dom.Rep.,Canada should not be loud to either. Just 'cause u are from a "weaker" baseball country, it should not effect your statis. Fernando V. won Rookie of the yr in 1981 and he's from Mexico. Japan has great players, but we should not penalities them for that.

Yes they should. Players coming up through the Minors are playing Pro-ball just like the Japan League players. They all deserve a shot at it.

No for the exact reasons that you gave.
Also I find it silly that you don't need a heck of a lot of games to qualify for the Gold Glove Award. Rafael Palmiero won the glove in 1999 despite playing only 30 games at 1st base! That is a rip off.

Personally, I'd answer no. However to say yes would be for the Major Leagues to acknowledge a foreign baseball league as a peer, which They won't do at anytime soon.

I think they should. However, I don't understand why Ichiro won in 2001, and Matsui didn't win in 2003. That is a double standard.

I personally don't agree with it because it kind of slights the Japanese League and other major leagues that exist. It would be a tough rule to change, though.
