I can think of very very very few examples where someone from a minority group got elected in a country with a different majority population. This could be race or religion... The only time that seems to happen is when the "groups" begin to blend and disappear... Example: In early American history there would have been zero chance of having a Catholic president. Historical forces changed that... Now Christians in the US do not define themselves as strongly by sect than they used to... Hence, a Catholic president is no biggy. Obama has the best chance yet of any black/mixed canadite precisely because he doesn't define himself by one ethnic group... That helps...Plus that fact that all negative news recently related race relations are about Hispanics makes being black less of an issue...sad but true...

It is unfortunate but a black president would find it IMPOSSIBLE to represent all of America.
He would be forced to address black issues ONLY so won't get elected.
Until blacks in general become a productive part of society as a whole and stop using the fact that they are black as an excuse they will continue to be marginalized.
Other races and ethnic groups do quite well here because they participate in society and work very hard for their improved status.

well, why haven't we had an asian president? I'm all for a president Chang in office, or what about hispanic? President Chavez... black people aren't the only minorities in america and I'm really sick of people thinking that way 1/2 the time. Just because a black person is running doesn't mean he's the lone minority, hell Lieberman is a jew...

A better question should be why hasn't there been a black person to rise up and lead people to vote for him to be president.

Black men have run for President, such as Jesse Jackson
and Sharpton....None of these were qualified so thereby not
elected.
But now, there is Dr. Obama, who will give Hillary, the
two face idiot a run for her money.

a president should not be elected based on the fact it is that races or genders turn, thats an idiotic notion, it should be voted based upon the ideas and positions that america feels are important, so far there has yet to be a black candidate that maches americas wants wills and desires.

There has never been a qualified, black person that has run in a presidential election. If Rice does not run, there will not be one this time either.

There has not been a black presidential candidate worth hiring.
What does "But I'm not trying to be races?" mean?
