Deleting emails will not increase your virtual memory. Virtual memory is used when you do not have enough RAM to support applications and services you are running. Virtual memory is a paging file that writes data temporarily to your hard drive and then sends the information back to your RAM when it has more memory freed up. You either need to upgrade your system's RAM, or increase your paging file. On Windows XP, this can be done by right clicking 'My Computer' and selecting 'Properties'. Click the 'Advanced' tab and push the 'Settings' button under preformance. Select the 'Advanced' tab in the performance options dialog box. Push the 'Change Button' under 'Virual Memory'.

Virtual Memory is space allocated on your hard drive for those times that your physical memory (RAM) is not enough.

To increase the amount of virtual memory go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory "Change" > Custom Size > adjust as needed. 1.5 times your physical RAM is a good minimum and 3 times your physical memory in MB is good for your maximum.

Virtual memory is your Pagefile (swap) memory on the hard drive and has nothing to do with whatever else you have stored on your HD...
You need to Increase the Pagefile on the HD.
To do that follow these directions.
1. Rightclick my computer, then click properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab, then click the settings tab in performance.
3. Click the Advanced tab, then in Virtual memory click Change.
4. Check Custom and then put 2048 in both boxes and that should give you enough pagefile for all the programs running and swap memory.

Yes, it will help if you delete some emails. eventually, your hard drive will probably run of space too. And when that happens, you will not be able to store anything else on ther and you may have to delete some stuff on the hard drive. I think that when your computer updates, it only takes up a little bit of space because it is replacing your old program with a new one, which takes up more space because it probably has some more features to it since its new ( or else there would be no point to the update).

Nope! Virtual memory is hard disk space that is used to emulate RAM (temporary memory) in your computer.

To put it simply...when your computer runs out of RAM, or wants to make space by making something a lower priority, it puts it into virtual memory. Of course, virtual memory is much, much slower than "real" memory (RAM).

To increase your virtual memory....

See here for the procedure:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/docum...

You should set it manually - to 1.5X to 2 X the amount of RAM you have in your machine. (E.G. if you have 512 MB, set Virtual RAM size to 768 - 1024 MB). In this case, I'd go with 2X.
