Men used to be able to sign away their rights, meaning they would have nothing to do wtih the mother or baby, and no obligation. However, this is a crappy arrangement, because it was the man's orgasm that caused the conception, so technically the child he created is his to support financially, even if he does not want to have any visitation with mom or baby. That's why they outlawed it and now the only way you get out of your responsibilites as a father are to have another man adopt the baby...and you can't make a man do that; it's up to the mother.

That being said, if you don't want kids, don't have sex. It sounds harsh and unreaslistic, but seriously...if you can't deal with the obvious consequenses, you should be more careful. Always wrap it up, and even if you do...there's still a chance to condom could break. There is NO 100% way not to get a girl pregnant besides abstaining from sex.

Maybe you could just be more choosy about your sex partners and only sleep with women whom you would consider staying with and supporting! What a radical idea.

If the mother agrees with it, you could give up your paternal rights which would prevent you from having anything to do with your child in the future. However, if she does not want that, you don't ever have to see your child but you will still be responsible for child support, and if you choose not to, the courts will go after you and garnish your wages. Hopefully the "father" will second guess their decision the next time they want to have sex with someone they are not ready to have a child with. Pregnancy is always a possibility when having sex!!!

Dude
you have a responsibility to this child. Birthcontrol
is important for BOTH partners. YOu better get used
to the idea becasue there is no way out. YOu will also
be paying child support and alot if you decide not to be
part of the baby's life.
now be a grown man and help your partner deal with this.
I just had a baby 6 months ago and my partner left me at
at 12 weeks of pregnancy now that is what you call a coward.
Do the right thing and talk to your partner about a plan of action.
Good Luck and always use a condom!!!!

You have no obligation to be a father to this child. You don't have to attend school events or share in parenting decisions or even be called Dad. However, you do have a legal responsibility to financially provide for this child until he/she is 18 and that is regardless of whether you ever see the child or not. If you do not pay child support, you can have your wages garnished.

If you truly do not want any more children to be responsible for either emotionally or financially, you need to practice some form of birth control.

The only legal rights you have is to chosse not to be involved in the childs life. The mother can go after you for child support if she chooses, but paternity has to be determined first. My older daughter does not know her father and I have never asked anything of him. It has worked out for us. I personally don't understand why you wouldn't want to know your own child. It is a sad situation.

No one can force you to be involved if you choose not to, but you can be forced by the government to make financial contributions for the upkeep of the child. This might happen if the mother reports you or, more likely, if she needs to go on to benefits. At that point the government will want you to support your child rather than them having too.

Nice try. But your "right" is to pay child support until the child is 18 years old.

If the courts gave deadbeat dads the "right" not to have anything to do with their unwanted children, how many men do you think would pay for their support? Probably none, and the state doesn't want that because it would mean more women and children living in poverty and more women and children on welfare, public assistance, etc.

By the way, your right is also to choose "not" to have unprotected sex with women you don't want babies with, but it looks like its too late for you to exercise that right.

you don;t have to have anything to do with any child you father, you will however have to pay child support if the mother goes after it or is on any kind of government assistance. If the mother agrees to allowing you to sign away your rights to the child you will be free from your "mistake."
