why is discipine of superior force important?

i need to know why it is important to show superior force at times. im writing an essay about how it is the least used because of the threats and all but i need to prove how it is important

Superior force is often used as a last resort to obtain a goal. It is probably used the least because other means of persuasion have succeeded. Also, the use of force may have consequences to the user of force. For example, even though a bully may get what he wants, it is possible for him to also receive a bloody nose in return.

In an ideal situation, all means of persuasion will have been exhausted and all that is left is a show of strength. It's easy for any individual or nation to justify the show of superior force because, in their mind, the "cause is always right" and "the cause justifies the means". Of course, this same logic was used by Hitler, Stalin, Genghis Khan, and every other tyrant or evil historical figure.

On the other hand, a show of force can also insure peace. When the bully is threatened by the superiority of the star football player, he is often no longer a bully. Therefore, if justifiable and pure of cause, the show of force can alleviate problems and prevent other dire consequences.
