His dad & step mom never talk to him unless to punish him. He said they have never told him they loved him. He seems so sad. I am starting to really get worried about him. What do I need to do?

Best you can do is love him yourself. I don't feel that you can really approach his parents with this unless you want to suffer the anger that may be directed towards you. Sometimes kids in this situation need a good role model and mentor. If you are willing to stand behind him and become someone positive in his life, then you should jump on it. Sounds like you really do love him and want what is best...hang on to that!

Step in immediately and try to talk some sense into those people......are they going to wait until he tries to commit suicide before they realize something is wrong? Try talking to your nephew directly and see if you can get him into the school counselor, a peer counseling program or an actual therapist.

You need to supply him with an outlet, a hobby, or at the least a distraction. Take him to do things, movies, skating, whatever his interests are, even if you could care less. If they collect comics, take him to a comic book store, if he like animals, take him to the zoo. Someone needs to show him they love him, and its obvious you can't make his parents do it, so its clearly up to you. Once you feel this area out, put him in the position to meet other kids, maybe even other kids who are going thru what he may be going thru?...............good luck.

Make sure

If you are his Dads sister then you can talk to your brother and tell him he is being an idiot with his kid.

If you are his Mothers sister then you may be able to say something to the Father but be more tactful.

You can be supportive of the kid but there is a point at which you are undermining the parents rights.

as an aunt myself, i'm real protective of my nieces and nephews... maybe you should spend more time with him and show him that he has someone to turn to and loves him dearly. Spending time with someone usually makes them more comfortable or talk to him.
