If you want to make soap, do the following:

get some fat

get some sodium hydroxide

mix them.

How do you get sodium hydroxide? Most people don't know how and have never learned. There is good reason for this because it is a dangerous chemical.

I will tell you how to make it, though... just be careful

Take baking soda (the kind that does not have corn starch in it). If it has cornstarch in it, dissolve the baking soda in very hot water and run the hot water through a coffee filter. Take the resulting mixture and boil it down to a powder. That is no longer sodium bicarbonate, now it is simply sodium carbonate.

Take that sodium carbonate and mix it with an equimolar amount of lime (CaO that is) - get this from home depot or something. You might even have some in your house already. Then, take that lime and mix it with the sodium carbonate you made.

Heat the sodium carbonate in lime in water. There will be a precipitate. Once again, pour the concentrated solution through a coffee filter (CAREFULLY). The resulting solution will be concentrated sodium hydroxide.

Take the sodium hydroxide and mix it with fat - lard from the supermarket does nicely. Mix it all together.

In order to make sure that no sodium hydroxide remains, pour in a GENEROUS quantity of lemon juice into your soap (also from the supermarket). This will ensure that you do not have any excess base in the soap that can burn your skin terribly.
