The first place to give voting rights to women was Pitcairn Island, in 1838. In the U.S.A., the first place to do so was Wyoming Territory in 1869. Nationwide, the U.S.A. granted women's suffrage in 1920.

1920. MUST SEE movie called, "Iron Jawed Angels" describes the process by which a few persistent women pushed the right to vote through a difficult political process. The movie stars Hilary Swank and describes Alice Paul and
Lucy Burns and their astonishing effort to win the right for women to vote. I don't want to describe too much here, other than to say you MUST see this movie!!! This should be part of our explicitily known US history. After seeing the movie, I was so amazed I did a little research to check out the truth of the movie. This is a great depiction of how to make a difference!

1918 as a result of the 1st world war.
they had been campaigning for it for years up until 1914(suffragettes and suffragists) but the militant tactics just alienated people instead of raising support
however when ww1 broke out they instantly stopped campaigning to support the war effort.
this got them a lot of respect and convinced people they deserved the right to vote
