I don't quite feel fully comfortable with asking this question, but if a 14 year old does something REALLY bad and illegal, like fighting officers, carjacking, Identity theft, embezzlement, felonies, etc, should the child be spanked?

My mother "spanked" me with a belt when I was around 13-14 for being around a kid with a gun and him aiming and pulling the trigger at another (no one got hurt, i dont even think it was loaded..and i didnt know that he had a gun)

second, my mother did the same thing when I was 16-17 when she found out I self-mutilating my body.

Don't worry I was a very disciplined child when I was younger, and a good child overall.

But anyhow, I don't really think it's necessary to be spanking a 14 year old, however, I feel the child should be put in JDC to let him/her know that's where he/she is going to end up if they continue to go down that road.

I'm not exactly sure what other ways of punishment you could do. I mean if you feel like it'd be necessary and may help, then spank the kid. I mean goodness gracious, just dont beat him/her.

I wish you the best of luck with this child. and I hope they end up on learning their lesson before it's too late.

No, but the parent(s) should put a CHINS on them through the court. Chins is for children in need of services, like perhaps a group home setting.Caregivers can get the break that they may need from the child so that they do not resort to being violent. It is hard to raise children these days without some kind of community support.

I was spanked until I was 15 ( I am now 34) so, yes I think if he/she did something really wrong & he/she was warned before hand that they would get a spanking for it then, it should be done. I believe in spankings when needed.

no, that's too old. I remember my mum spanked me once when i was about 13, i don't think i have forgiven her yet, it was so degrading and didn't help at all.
You can find another way to discipline a 14 year old, taking away priveledges, or if they do the stuff you are saying you should really report it to the police!

no if a child does that then they should get a worse punishment than just being spanked... i can understand a young child being spanked for doing wrong, buta 14 year old doing that kind of stuff should be taught a lesson the hard way...

Of course not; that is absolutely ridiculous. What in the world is the theory that states that spanking a teenager will give him or her that "aha" moment and prevent him from participating in criminal activities? This child is in desperate need of a strong network of supportive adults and mentors, and if that fails, the juvenile court system.

Personally, I think that is a little old for a spanking. If the 14 year old is doing all this stuff then spanking OBVIOUSLY didnt work!!
