What do you like about it? Which type of lighting is the least straining for the eye?

It depends what room it's in and what you're using the light for. General ambient lighting, task, accent... all different types. Incandescent we are all familiar with, gives a natural warm glow but costs energywise in the long run. Halogen gives a bright whiter light which is going to let you see colors in their truest form. Low voltage is halogen and converts down the voltage to save on energy in the long run. As for flourescents, it's good to have them in an area where the light will be on for a longer time to save on energy. I've worked as a residential lighting specialist for too long....

I HAVE A 3 way switch in one room and the other i use a low voltage bulb they are great and you can see really well and the cost is low so i save on my pg&e

I use a three way torch lamp that does not put light directly in your eyes.Spot lights to accent my home decor

I have a small chandelier in my lounge, and that is complemented by soft uplighters around the room in pastel shades, its very restful. The chandelier can be dimmed too.
