in a housing situation, where a relative owns a house and you are buying a house from them, but you have no legal documentation and they say you owe them money, but you have been paying and you get no receipts from them, legally what are your rights, if you have no documentation, lease or otherwise saying you agree to pay anything. no signatures or nothing.

You can only establish ownership or some kind of contract with documentation. At the least, cancelled checks. If you have done the whole thing informally, without paperwork, then you will have a very difficult time claiming anything in court.

Oral agreements that involve the sale of real property are never valid (generally speaking, speak to an attorney in your area for details). The statute of fraud requires that any contract for the sale of real property be in writing.

Your question is a little vague, but I will try to explain your options:
1. stop paying and own nothing, you will likely be evicted from the property.
2. ask for a written contract, if refused, stop paying and owe nothing, you will likely be evicted from the property.
3. ask for your money back (this will likely require proof of payment if you pursue this option in court).

There are many exceptions and conditions on the options above. You need to seek the advice of a lawyer in your area.

Good luck!

Was there a verbal agreement?

Also, you have a bank account. NEVER pay in cash (can't be proven). Your bank account will PROVE that you paid them.

If you paid them money, you should have proof.

Just learn that in the future you should ALWAYS get everythign in writing.

Without a lease or receipts, you are up that famous creek without a paddle.

Bad move, that.
