i got my hat taken away from me today from a school employee when i was sitting listening to what she had to say. it is a hat with two crossing pistols on it whith the maker's name on it "pistol Pete" i think that this is ludacris and they should give me my hat back since it is my constitutional right to wear whatever the hell i want. another reason why it is not ok to take my hat is because it is not distracting. but they said that my hat " is not promoting a safe environment ". umm people at my school are bringing chains to school with self defense weapons on their keychain and yet they have to take away my hat...

(please when you answer this give me lawful facts of why i should not be allowed to wear my hat in school, not your oppinion of why i should not be conserned with something so trivial as what i wear to school.)

Given the wording of your question, I would be more concerned with my spelling, grammar and punctuation than my attire.

You have free speach , It's a constitutional right. you could wear and advocate any message you want to but you most remeber that while exercising such rights you must not exercise it in a way to be harmfull to people arround you.
Free speach does not include abusive words or 'fighting words'.

On the otherhand, your freedom of speach does not extend to speach in schools. The united state supreme court has defined schools not a public place for the defination of speach, Hence, the school can regulate what speech is allowed on premises so long as they show that there is a rational or important reason to hold such view.

But you still have an argueable case if you can show that the taking of your hat was a punishment or a way to isolate your views.

I agree with you 100%. The problem is schools can mandate dress codes. Anything they find offensive or disruptive they can ban. This is a good civics lesson though, contact your local ACLU and see if they'd be willing to take your case on the basis your 1st AMMENDMENT RIGHTS WERE VIOLATED.

School officials shouldn't have a right to do this.

Threaten legal action, you will get your hat back.

My friends called up the N.A.A.C.P. when the school took away their hat, they got it back in 3 hours.

Call the A.C.L.U.

Because it pisses hippies off, and most teachers are just hippies that couldn't think of a better job... It's like college professors... They are all just failures at their major so they teach the obvious facts we can easily find in a book.... They just point it out.

You should be there to learn, not to wear stupid hats. Get over it.
