My original Xbox broke a few weeks ago, and I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the 360 or save a few hundred bucks and stick with the old Xbox. I have a couple of questions I'd like answered before I make the decision:
1) I don't have an HDTV, so is there much point in getting the 360 without one?
2) Are original xbox games fully compatable with the 360, or is there some catch?
3) I've been reading alot of complaints from a few months ago concerning the structural quality of the console and constant overheating. Have these problems been improved since 360 launched?
Anything else you'd like to add about the 360 would be appreciated, I'd like to know as much as I can before I fork over $600 for a system and all its components.

i just want to tell all the XBOX fanboys that the $500 version of the PS3 is better than the premium $400 XBOX360 so stop saying that a PS3 cost $600 because that is a lie, and the PS3 online is free, so u save another $50.
back to the question, why dont u wait untill the new XBOX 360 "black" or zephier"comes out? they say it's going to have 120 gigs and be able to display 1080p resolution as well as wi-fi included, hey, they may throw a free XBOX "LIVE" gold with it. now if u are a HALO fan then u should get a 360 but if u are not, then u might want to see this website where it shows u why the PS3 is so freaking amazing. http://www.playb3yond.com/
i do respect the XBOX360 but i don't like it when people make things up just to put the other system down. everyone should just get along and pick on those fruitcakes Wii owners that i hate so much. PEACE
Wii=WEAK!!!!

First of all, most Xbox 360 games have graphics good enough so that it looks AMAZING on any type of TV, granted the TV is relatively new. The first day i got mine, I played Call of Duty 3 on my regular 2001 Sony, and i couldn't believe it wasn't HD. And if you do invest in an HDTV soon, you will already have a next-gen console to play on it.
Secondly, Xbox games are compatible with the 360, although the menu that comes up when you hit the big middle button on a 360 does not work. As far as i know, that is the only catch there is when playing Xbox games on the 360.
Lastly, many of the overheating bugs have been fixed. The problems you heard were with the first batch that came out with the Christmas rush. I have had mine for 4 months and have had no problem at all with it overheating, or breaking, or freezing or anything.
And as far as i know, a 360 will not cost $600 ( i got mine with a wireless controller, cords, upgraded hard drive, a rechargable battery pack, and a Xbox Live headset for under $450).

Okay. The answer is yes to all of those.
1) I used to play without an HDTV, and graphics don't make a game good or not. They are just an added extra! But if you can get an HDTV, it makes it all the more wonderful!
2) Not ALL original Xbox games are compatible. A LOT are though. Most of the popular ones are however. Here's a list for you
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360
3) The original 360s used to die....a lot. I've gone through 2, but that was back when they were first launched back in 2005! I've had mine since early 2006 with no problems! And Microsoft is pretty good about replacing them too!
Overall, the 360 is a FAR FAR FAR better system than the original, especially if you have xbox live! Tons of cool things you can do: download games, watch movies! It's seriously worth it!
And don't worry about paying $600, the good xbox system *DO NOT GET THE CHEAP ONE ITS NOT WORTH IT! YOU NEED A HARDDRIVE!* is $400! PS3 costs $600, stay away from that!
Hope this helps!

I bought an xbox360 premium console in the beginning of January of 2006. Just recently my xbox has had a hardware problem. It seams this is a common problem if you go to www.xbox.com and look at the forums lots of peoples 360's are breaking down.
If you do buy a 360 if you can PURCHASE an extended warranty if the store sells it. I know walmart sells a 2 year warranty hat takes effect after the Microsoft 1 year warranty wares off so you get 3 years.
(Since I don't have any warranty now I have to pay 140$ to get my xbox hardware fixed up.)

i love my 360, but i also loved my xbox. The reason why i stepped up and got the 360 was cause the online experience is so much better. Being about to download demos is so cool.
I do not have an HDTV either but the games still look so much realer.
