I am a 20 year old female - slim and in good health, of about average fitness but have never been running properly before.
I want to get into jogging/running - how far is a sensible distance for me to start with? (i want to run a bit everyday). How quickly/at what rate should i try to increase this?

As a beginner run what you feel, and be careful. It is easy to do too much too fast. Run so that you can talk, if you run faster you are not staying aerobic. If you can do 2 miles 2 to 3 times a week, and do not feel stressed or tired, or sore, then increase the distance, or days, but not both at the same time. An increase in distance should be limited to a mile or so every 6 weeks. It is easy to jump up to 4 miles a day after a couple of weeks of 2 miles, but it will probably cause an injury. Take your time and control the urge to start doing 10 miles a day after a month or so.

Get yourself the right shoes for starters. You may jog, but not for long after the first couple days of pounding the pavement.
Monitor your heartrate as you jog. Thats your measure. 15 minute increments at first of the higher heartrate. Maybe even 30 minute increments since your only 20.

I feel that possibly it hasn't been stretched out. That occurs to me. For you, I feel that is the signal that your frame is getting leap and is fitting more potent. Make certain you leisure it and ice it down if it keeps to trouble you.
