Crayola Crayons were invented by cousins Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith. Binney's wife Alice coined the word "Crayola" by combining the French word for chalk (craie) and the "olea" part of "oleaginous" (oily).

From Wikipedia so take with a grain of salt:

[quote] Crayola Crayons were invented by cousins Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith. Binney's wife Alice coined the word "Crayola" by combining the French word for chalk (craie) and the "olea" part of "oleaginous" (oily). Crayola is also a genericized trademark for "crayon" in some Spanish-speaking countries.
