Right now they have fanatical leaders and its difficult to trust in their future ability to control their own people, and the fear is not only that they will bomb Israel, without provocation, but that they will eventually use it to quell their own people in an attempt to retain power. The United States developed the Nuclear bomb quite early in the sweepstakes and to date it is the only country to have used it on an enemy populace.
No one could match them for firepower and so no one was going to get in their face, as you put it. All countries are not the same, some are unstable and under dictatorships, others suffer from extreme poverty due to their leaders excessive paranoia the US is under neither category.
