If you are tired of the predictable romances that come out of New York and want stronger heroines, try some of the books at http://www.hardshell.com. They aren't formula books and the heroines tend to be a lot more interesting. There's a large selection of paranormal, science fiction, and historical romances.
One I liked was "Sex, Lies, & Rodeo Games." Who would have believed rodeo cowboys having problems in the sack? Only a New York sex therapist working on a book.

Well, for paranormal/historical fiction, try 'Shadowmancer' and 'Wormword'. It's by Gary Something-Or-Other, but my mind just drew a blank. They're really excellent books. When reading them, some of the characters are really God, Satan, angels, and demons, they just have different names. They're really interesting.
Anything by John Connolly is good. He writes fantasy, but it gets really dark, and is not something you would read to your 10 year-old. He wrote 'The Book of Lost Things' and 'The White Road' among many others whose titles escape my memory.
P.S. I jusr remembered the name of the author of 'Shadowmancer' and 'Wormwood'. It's Gary Taylor. As for the romance, I'm not so good at those recommendations.

Absolutely
I just finished the Triology that TERRY BROOKS wrote
Running With The Demon
Knight of The Word
Angel Fire East
This is a set of books written by Terry Brooks based in his hometown (I live there too). There is a real Sinissippi Park with a toboggin slide and the pavillion and Indian Mounds.. It is just *super* ...
Terry keeps us turning the pages and after one read we can't wait to pick up the next in the series... 3 books... exciting from the beginning of the first to the end of the third..
Just google Terry Brooks... you will see what I mean
Happy Reading

John Grishom is a great author. He writes about law stuff, but very interesting reading. I recommend either the "Last Juror" or " A Painted House" But all of his books are good.

Lindsay Sands writes some good vampire novels. Also Jennifer Armintrout is good too. Kim Harrison's books are really good too. I like the fact that it has vampires and faries in the same book.

Try Tamora Pierce. She is a great author, with plenty of spunky female heroines!
