And If so is there something I can do to keep them away from my plant without using cemicals?

Most people don't cut the brass or weeds around there berries so that gives them a good place for cover & a food source of mice & birds that are comeing for the berries. If you can take eather away you shound't see a snake. The easyest of the two would be to keep the weeds & grass out.

I was told if you plant garlic around plants they won't bother,also I know if you put Moth balls in around the plants they don't like that either. We use Moth balls under the house and around plants to keep them away from the house. Good luck and carry a hoe with you. I do NOT agree that they are our friends,I do NOT like them no matter what kind they are.

I had not heard that but do have a couple of garter snakes that frequent my raspberry patch. I hate it when I see them, but they are harmless and a good predator for small rodents. As I keep telling myself..."snakes are our friends"

they are wanting the bugs in there and the shrub is great cover for safety. they are not harming the plants. get a kitty for help with critters.
