There was more than one. One was not saying the word "pregnant" and the other was that she and Ricky could not sleep in the same bed even though they were married.

There were a couple of things:
1. It was very controversial to have a woman as the lead character at the time. All sitcoms seemed to relate around the father figure or a male character. I Love Lucy was the first show to have a female headline and get first billing.
2. I remember reading about some commotion when the Lucy pregnancy was written into the storyline, and also when Lucille Ball was visibly pregnant on screen, since it was something that you never saw before on televison. Studio heads believed that it would kill the show, and here it is now one of the most memorable moments in television history.
3. Lucy and Desi's bedroom being shown was controversial at the time, as it was on any other show, since it would imply that the character's had a sexual relationship (which of course is just plain silly to think, right? :D)
I am sure there are more, but I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

I am a big Lucy fan and have read alot of books. There was several and someone who answered you on here was actually wrong about Lucy and Ethel ( Vivian Vance) not liking eachother. When she was hired as Ethel,Lucy was mad at desi for hiring her without her knowing and was somewhat jelous of vivian becouse she was actually younger than lucy and attractive when she was looking for someone opposite, but they later became best friends and lucy was at her bedside when vivian passed away in the 70's of cancer.vivian and william frawley ( fred) could not stand eachother.she hated that she was playing the wife of a much older man and he was a grupmy and an alcoholic.he showed up for work each day smelling of booze.also lucy and desi were having matital problems and the episode of the lucy/desi comedy hour was the one when she dressed up like a chaufer and at the end of the episode they cried and they were real tears becouse they were in the midst of a divorce.thet was the last of the I love lucy show.she later did other lucy sitcoms and vivian was on her show.

Vivian Vance (Ethel) was actually younger than Lucy. They made her gain weight to play the part of Ethel. When she fist met William Frawley (Fred) she was quoted as saying "HE is going to play my husband......he is too old to be my husband" From that moment they couldn't STAND each other.
There are a few episodes where you can see that they don't really kiss each other, they just appear too.

The fact that they showed them in bed, and it had to be seperate beds, and at that time it was not common to show a woman get pregnant on a TV show. It was a very ground breaking show for it's time. Even though we look at it and scratch our heads and sort of say, HUH.

I heard that Lucy was sometimes very demanding and rude. Her and Ethel didn't get along and Ethel didn't like Fred because he was older.
