Your college advisor should be able to help you get the right courses. Of course you will have to take your basic subjects (English, math, science, history). You will probably major in elementary education. You will take classes in child development, and in how to plan lessons and manage your classroom. You will probably have a lot of hours observing experienced teachers in their classrooms, and then you will do your student-teaching where you get to teach some classes on your own with an experienced teacher there as your mentor to help back you up, give you feedback, etc.

You would be an education major. You'll also be expected to have experience BEFORE you graduate. My advice to you would be work at a day care or after-school program part-time as an undergraduate.

you don't have to take any specific classes, you just have to major in a field that you can teach i.e. English, history, poli sci, math etc, and then get your credentials once you graduate
