Stars use up their fuel, collapse and make new stars. Some of the elements on earth are only made in supernovas. Elements lighter than and including iron are made in regular suns. These elements were available for the formation of the earth so we are at least a second generation star. In other words, life as we know it could not exist in a first generation star.

The elements heavier than iron can't be made my fusion, because the reaction to form them is endothermic. As a result, these can only be formed in supernovae.
The presence of the heavier elements on earth is evidence to support the fact that the sun is a second generation star, formed in part following the supernova of a heavier star.
If you like, then, you are stardust!

Hope this helps!
