Gay Marriage "Civil Unions" are allowed in Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Conneticut. However some states may have residency requirements.
However, Canada allows Gay Marriage whether or not you're a resident there.
If you are considering getting married and want "marriage" attached to your event, consider Canada.
The US will not recognize a gay marriage performed in Canada either. I am attaching a website with all the information you might possibly have about Canadian Gay Marriages.

4 states allow gay marriage or civil unions - something similar without the name "marriage" attached to it (which is so ridiculous, just call it marriage dumbazzes)
Those are Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut and New Jersey. I am pretty sure California, RI, and Washington will have either gay marriage or civil unions soon also.

Massachusetts is the only state to legalize same sex marriage.
The states of Vermont, Connecticut, and New Jersey do not have same sex marriage, but do have civil unions which have similar but not identical rights of marriage.
California has a domestic partnership law that provides most (but not all) spousal benefits to unmarried couples. Hawaii, Maine, and the District of Columbia have laws that provide partial benefits to unmarried couples.
All of these laws apply to state benefits only due to the so-called Defense of Marriage Act which prevents the federal government from conferring any rights to same sex couples and doesn't compel other states to recognize same sex marriages from other states.

should it pass the legislature.
right now all the politicos are squirming.
no one is saying how they'll vote.
