I'm almost 11 weeks pregnant. For the last week or so i've had a bad cold, with a constantly stuffy nose and lots of sneezing. I feel really lethargic too. I've had a flu jab a while back (before I was pregnant) so don't think it's flu.I've been getting lots of rest, washing my hands etc, just worried about the effects of it on the baby? Thanks

As long as you drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest, and avoid cold medicines, you both will be fine. Congrats and good luck with parenting. You'll love it!

It typically is nothing unusual. Some women will feel sick the whole pregnancy and some will not. The best thing you can do is keep up on your appointments with you doctor or midwife.
Be sure to drink 3-5 liters of water a day.
If you do experience a violent turn from the just feeling achy stage all the time, contact a doctor.
While resting is very important you must force yourself to move, swim, clean or something. It will help to develop a better appetite. Research has also shown that it make delivery easier . Good Luck.

No effects, do not worry at all!! Just take yout prenatals and extra Vitamin C daily-1000 mg. I had a bad cough when i was like 4 months pregnant and that was scary because evry time I would cough, I could feel the baby almost "detaching". But everything is fine. With your first, you worry about every little thing. Just go to the Dr and have him check you white blood cell count to make sure there isn't a more serious infection going on.

Hi.... I just recently had my first baby 4 months ago and during my pregancy I got several really bad colds. I was worried about the effects on the baby, but was assured that the cold would not affect him. The hardest part was that I was advised not the take any medication as that might have an effect so the cold did seem to linger on and I think I felt worse than I would have had I been able to take something. I drank alot of decaf tea with honey in it as honey is supposed to have natural healing qualities. I also drank alot of water and of course tried to rest as much as possible. Hope you feel better soon.

A cold shouldn't affect your baby unless you get a fever. Fevers are very dangerous during pregnancy. You need to contact your doctor or read the papers they gave you on your first visit regarding medications. My doctor allowed me to take plain sudafed, plain or extra strength tylenol, and use saline spray. It doesn't work wonders, but it helped a little. Check with your doctor FIRST to see what they recommend. You should also try drinking lots of liquids, especially water. Having a cold when you are pregnant really sucks, so I hope you feel better soon.

Your baby is perfectly fine. He/she is not sharing the cold with you, so don't worry about that. Just make sure you are resting, getting your fluids, and still eating healthy. This is the part the effects your baby. I know you are feeling crummy, I had two bad colds, but just continue to give that baby what it needs, including rest for its mother.
Take care, hope you feel better soon.
Btw, I soaked in Johnson's baby vapor bath, it really helped me feel a little better and more relaxed.

I just got over my cold from last week, I had trouble sleeping and the cold made it even worse because stuffy nose. You can try having a humidifier next to you at night. I keep mine on all day, because it's really good to clear your nose and it worked for me. It's Vick's humidifier. Taking a warm shower before bed also helps. I found drinking some tea (decaffeinated) helped and taking Ricola the green tea kind. The cold won't harm the baby, feel better!

Colds are normal but there is a virus called cytomegalovirus and it has the symptoms of a normal cold an 80% of all the people in the us can get it, but if you get it for the first time while you are pregnant you can give it to your unborn child. I can cause brain damage and sometimes death. Everyone gets it so if you have never been tested I would definantly get tested for cmv. My sister has cmv my mom had colds all throughout her pregnancy and they did not know that she was experiencing cmv til my sister wasw four and could not walk! So please be aware! Children carry it so if you are kissing children on the mouth or cheecks it i very possible that could be it! I hope that helps!

A cold virus shouldn't affect the baby. I had an awful cold during my first pregnancy, and the stomach flu during my second. Both babies turned out perfect. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids to keep you and the baby hydrated. Don't take any medications without talking to your doctor.

Make sure to rest lots. The only thing that you can take is tylenol. Just regular tylenol not tylenol cold. When it comes to your baby, make sure that you take only a doc's advice. Don't take ANYTHING besides tylenol regular strength unless you have a doc permission. You can always talk to a pharmacist too. There are usually health lines and stuff that you can call too in different communities:)
