If you say most dominant in one year - '72 Dolphins due to being undefeated - 17-0.

BUT, the most dominant team over a period of time was the Steelers of the 1970s. They won 4 Super Bowls in 6 years. They won back to back titles TWICE during that 6 year stretch. This may NEVER be duplicated.

Others may pick the 49ers, but they couldn't beat the Giants with LT back then. The Steelers never lost a championship game during their stretch.

I'm going to have to go with the 85 Bears, the 72 Dolphins may have had the only undefeated season ever but they weren't as good as the 85 Bears (who's one loss coincidentally came from the dolphins) The bears defense completely annihilated almost every team they came up against. If it weren't for an amazing hall of fame QB and we all know who that was. Then this bears team would leave no doubt in any ones mind that they were the best.

The Steelers of the seventies with four rings.
The Dolphins for the unbeaten season.
The 49ers under Montana era.
The 85 Bears with that Monster D.
The Browns during Jim Browns era.
Canton Bulldogs back to back undefeated seasons
Green Bay Packers of the 60's.
The link shows every season since NFL's creation in the 1920's.

i dont know if you're speaking of greatest history of success or best team in history. the packers have had the most success having by far the most championships. rating the most dominant team of a year, you cannot determine as times were different in each decade. if i were forced to answer that, i'd say either the 72 dolphins or 85 bears.

85 Bears. Would dominate teams. The 72 Phins would win by three, five, and seven. Didn't really dominate the field.

I would say in 1985 it was the Chicago Bears, they were unstoppable. Then it went onto the 92-95 Cowboys. Troy Aikman ,Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith were the triple threat. Today I would say that the Ravens and the Bears have the best defense, but the Colts are the best offense.

I'd say you gotta say the 72 Dolpins. 82? 49ers and the 85 Bears were the best I ever seen play (other than highlight reels) since I wasn't born until 75.

It would seem to be the 72 Dolphins. Other than that the 85 Bears... man that defense was cold!
