Really hard to say. Where did they move it? Must have taken a lot of Jews.

Some Jews followed the idea called Zionism. Basically, the idea was that the Jews should have their own homeland (the historic land that used to be called Israel). The idea took off after WW2, after the Nazis decimated the Jewish population. The idea that the only way the Jews could be safe from persecution was to have their own state gained popularity (and the owners of Palestine, the British, were looking to get out) and the UN soon authorized the creation of a new state- Israel.
Unfortunately, some Brits had promised the Palestinians already living there the land (thus begining a generations long fight).

Zionism is the correct answer, and most Zionists were highly secular people of Jewish origin. Unfortunately there had been Muslim, Christian (and non-Zionist Jews) people living there for centuries.

I can't of course blame the Brits for all the ensuing conflicts, but I do think they ought to have made up their bloody minds to drive all the inhabitants out (some possibility of international unpopularity here, but they didn't mind in India), or to exclude any foreign entry, meaning Jewish -- but hell they had a lot of places up for sale in those days.
