The state puts more taxes on the fuel and CA has regulations on the fuel that most other states do not have, that makes it more expensive as well.

$2.39 here in Arlington, TX. Still another great reason to have moved out of California. Getting tired of paying extra for everything so the government can waste your money? Just by leaving California I got a $5,000 a year raise because of the reduced taxes.

I wish it was $2.61 around here. I pay about $2.91 right now. California has to thank the state for it's extra taxes - thats why you pay so much.

Go to CNN.com, I think they did a story on that recently. Something to do with a law or something. Even Hawaii who has their gas shipped over to them pays less than we do in So Cal.

because the oil is imported from the other side of the world and they sail across the ocean to bring it to plants to process and then put it in trucks to take it to plants that have to store it instead of just dropping it off in closer states such as flordia or louisiana, its a matter of how much it costs to ship it to your state, its the price you pay for living there. it must suck to pay that much though, our is only about 2.15.

We here in Cali have to meet very strict emissions requirements (yay thanks to all the save-the-baby-everything-global-warming-kills! people). All the additives, as well as the additional taxes and fees, result in us having to pay out the a** for gas.
