No, but really who cares? Almost everyone already owns a dvd player (or something that can play dvds). Nintendo is a GAMING company, they makes GAMING systems and GAMES. They don't need to tack on extra functionality to make people buy their systems. Nintendo doesn't try to make the Wii something it's not. Although because people keep whining about it, Nintendo is rumored to be making a "Wii 2.0" that will have a dvd player. No promises though.

maybe soon...they are releasing a version of the Wii in Japan that will play DVDs but they are unsure if it will be released outside of Japan in the US and other regions and are not sure if it can be done by just a bios update and a channel download or if they will have to make a whole new system...from my view of the consoles specs it is theoreticly able to do it with a software update but it depends what the people who make the decissions want to do. I cant provide any sources on this as I cant remember the numerous sites that I have read this on but do a google search and check out the gamespot site...I think I saw it on there

absolutely not. thats one of the reasons its so cheap. nintendo kept everthing optional out to keep the price low. and after owning the wii for several months, the fun factor is now low as well.
