okay........I can answer part of it

Mentor was a person who was in a position to counsel Odysseus......he was a confidant....a mentor (this is where we get the word). Athena disguises herself as mentor......her favorite hero is Odysseus for the fact that he uses his mind and cunning rather than taking a "shoot first, questions later' attitude.

When Helen of Sparta (later Troy) was offered up to suitors, her father made all of the men seeking her hand in marriage swear an oath. He knew that there would be fighting over his daughter if he did not do this. The various royal suitors (all kings and royalty) swore that if ever called upon to help by Helen's husband, they must go. By stealing Helen, Paris violated the sacred greek guest-host relationship.......and spit on greek values. This was an inexcusable offense.

He stayed with Circe for one year and had three sons with her......time on her island passes differently than in the mortal realm, i forget exactly how long he was kept there (going by mortal time). Calypso keeps Odysseus for 9 years.

sorry however i will handiest reply the only as to why Odysseus would now not refuse the present to visit warfare. that motive is that the country that requested him used to be essentially the most robust country at the moment. if Odysseus refused then warfare might of been raged on his nation.
