I surpose we can make many good products in the UK given a fair chance but can we make them "cheaper" than China as China seem to make just about every thing these days.

no way can things be made cheaper than China, not with the present taxing system.

things can be made of a better quality than China, but NEVER cheaper.

we pay so much tax in this country, it's crippling many businesses, making it a dilema on whether to source home made goods of out sourcing.

at the end of the day, its all down to the government!

There's no way we could do it cheaper . We would just lose out on money . If there was a new make like nike or smomthing that china didt already make then we could properly egt some buisness. But china slready do cheap already and i dont think it could get any cheaper . I mean a nike tracksuit out there costs like 50p... amazing i know.

No. A skilled Chinese worker earns about £2000 a year. They also have an abnormally strong work ethic like the Japanese, putting pleasure a distant second. The Chinese and Indian economies are both forecast to overtake ours by the middle of the century. Soon we will no longer be able to rely on being ahead technologically.

Sadly it all comes down to labour costs. You can have products from the UK but are you willing to pay the prices?

On the flip side are you willing for the standard of living for the average person to go down enough in the UK to make the goods cheap?

People in China are willing to work for such low rates that people in the UK would not even think about working for. That's why employers go to countries like China and India because they know many people are willing to work for outrageously low wages.

Maybe once upon a time, but no longer, 'cos we can't beat the labour rates in China, etc. That's why so many businesses transfer their manufacturing facilities there..

No is the answer, to produce something cheap, you have to have cheap materials, cheap transportation, cheap energy source and a cheap workforce, cheap or no tax's and then a cheap transportational source.
So I dont think the UK has much chance

We can't do it cheaper, that's for sure. I'm not even sure we can do anything better, either.
