The cutest dress I've ever bought actually came from the Salvation Army store. It's a vintage 1970's long sleeved navy blue party dress that falls just above the knee with white cuffs and V-collar and a white floral print and cost me all of $4. I would say always check the second-hand stores first for one-of-a-kind pieces at extremely good prices, but if that's not your thing then I recommend H&M because being a European-based company, their clothes are different from the cookie-cutter styles everyone else is wearing but their prices are still really reasonable. Hot Topic usually has some surprisingly cute dresses, too and most people who think they don't fit the "type" to shop there pass it right by. Good luck!

It depends on what kind of dress you want. If you are looking for a prom type dress, bridal shops have awesome choices. Your local mall should also have a prom dress store.Try JC Penny's. The internet has more choices than you could believe. If you are looking for just a regular party dress, Wet Seal is good.

Try EBAY. I know it sounds tacky, but there are a lot of companies saleing NEW dresses on ebay. Most companies even let you choose a size, or better, send in your measurements for a custom fit. Best of all, you can get a tailor-made dress that fits you perfectly without spending too much $. I only paid about $40 for my promgown. including shiping! Good luck!

I buy all my dresses lately at ROSS! They have a great selection at great prices. I also found some great more formal dresses at JC Penney! I never shop at JC Penney, but I stumbled in there and they tons of up to date fashion dresses at good prices. Right after Christmas, I bought 2 dresses that we originally $150 for $19.99 on clearance.

This time of the year, they're everywhere. Go to Wet Seal, or Charlotte Russe, I bet Target has some, I haven't looked there, but they've been cute in the years before.

I love Vanity and Deb, for dresses, also J.C.Penney and Old Navy. Oh and if you have a Glick's in your area (it's a chain store, but it might be regional like only in the midwest, but I'm not sure) but they have amazing dresses, too.

If it is for a special occasion, try David's Bridal. They have a website, and they are a big chain so you could do a location lookup and you might find a real store nearby.
