My daughter eats about 4 ounces every 3 hours, so she eats around 24 ounces a day. The problem is that she has been eating this amount since she was 2 1/2months old! She hasn't increased her intake at all really. She is defintiely not losing weight, but does this mean she is probably not gaining any as well? At her 2 month check she was 12.5 pounds. She is not eating solids yet either. Should I try to make her eat more, or is this just the was she wants to eat?

She will let you know if she's hungry. Does she seem content after 4 ounces. If there is more in the bottle does she stop at 4 ounces or will she drink more if she's offered more. My son is 5 1/2 months and still has only 4 ounces per feeding. I have noticed that his last bottle before bed he'll want more than 4 ounces. But during the day he'll only take 4 ounces, sometimes less. He's almost 17 pounds.

Charlie is right. She'll eat as much as she needs to as often as she needs to. Kailasmom121304 is wrong though, in suggesting you put cereal in her bottle. This is assuming she's taking formula. You should never put anything except water or formula in a baby's bottle. It'll set a bad precedent on what to expect from the bottle. Also, sleeping through the night depends on nervous system development, not whether she has enough in her belly.

Your child's sleeping habits also change throughout their infancy and childhood. You'll learn how to cope through all of it, just don't be afraid to ask for help. And don't be embarrassed about calling your pediatrician as often as you need. They're used to these questions, specially from 1st time moms. The only dumb questions are the ones that DON'T get asked.

By the time they're old enough to take something other than formula or water (around 6 mos. old) they can start learning to drink from those training cups or a straw. I did that w/ both my sons: I used a juice box (pouch w/ my first-born since the boxes weren't around yet) and when they'd try to suckle the straw I would squeeze just a little. It gave them the idea to suck and that was it. From there to a training cup to a regular cup was a breeze.

As for your daughter, don't worry as long as your pediatrician says every thing's ok. They see TONS of kids and know what they're talking about. Just make sure you DO take her to her scheduled visits

Shes jsut not ready. Try the rice cereal every 3 days until she finally takes it. She'll be fine!

If you try to make her eat more she might just vomit it up. Offer her more put 5 ounces in her bottle see if she'll take it and burp her more often to "make room".

My baby did the same. She will pick up her eating habits. You can try cereal in the bottle, if she doesn't sleep through the night, this will help.

If she's hungry she'll let you know and eat more. I think she's fine, just feed her when she's hungry. If you are really concerned about it call your doctors office. Most have a nurse line you can call in on.

If the doctor isn't concerned then I wouldn't worry. As long as she is not loosing weight and is growing along the weight curve she's fine.
