Do you mean Baptism?

The candle represents the "light of Christ."
Christ is the 'light of the world.' The candle is passed on to the church's newest member.

The priest, minister will say "Receive the light of Christ" The parents or godparents will take the candle and "keep it safe."
In my church, the candle is a gift from the church. It can be brought out at First Communion and Confirmation as a symbol of Christ's influence in the child's life.
