Um a ton of things. Did you fail? Did you ask them why? I'm sure they wanted to charge you money to check it out, but that's because there are many things that can cause it to fail, really doesn't have much to do with the type of vehicle either.
Just about anything that can cause a 01 dodge neon to fail can cause your vehicle to fail as well, know what I mean? I guess it might depend where you live, California has extra emission parts added to vehicles lol.

Sorry, but you are going to have to have that checked out!
BTW I had no idea they even made those cars after like 95, I have never seen one that new!

you dont say what the engine type is! zetec hcs ect petrol or diesel try changing the oil and filter. also replace the air filter element for a start. settings do not deajust themselves this takes manual interference. advise against altering these without specialist equipment. ecu (if fitted) may be playing up. or low battery voltage could upset it.

a faulty lambda probe/o2 sensor could be a sending wrong siganls to ecu causing wrong fuelling and then incorrect emmissions.
or the catalyctic convertor could have burned out. at vw we get a few, but not many on 2002 model cars.
