GSM & CDMA are two different cell phone technologies. GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications and CDMA is Code division multiple access. Sprint is a CDMA service provider. GSM and CDMA are both good technologies. Each one has advantages and disadvantages over the other. Sprint is also CDMA. There really is no benefit to having GSM or CDMA - I believe it is to prevent phone sharing. I suppose that Verizon wants you to spend more money on a phone, so having an unlocked phone on from another service defeats the purpose of buying a phone from them. It's harder to unlock a phone from another accounton CDMA, so yeah. Dump Verizon. They suck, I have it.

Sprint, and Alltel are on CDMA as well. One of the benefits of one over the other is coverage. CDMA offers better coverage in rural areas of the U.S. than GSM. While GSM offers better coverage in other countries, since GSM is the "standard" in other countries. There are other benefits, but it would be a too long to write all of them. Don't get me wrong each have their pluses and minuses.

***SPRINT IS NOT GSM, IT IS CDMA ALSO***

No real reason. Has its pros and cons. For instance, CDMA offers better sound quality, will having a lower standby time for phones than GSM. CDMA makes it harder for stolen phones to be activated, but you cannot switch SIM cards if you have a Treo but want a Gzone to take to the beach.
