I agree with the previous response. When a child's adoption is finalized by the court, a new birth certificate is issued with the child's adoptive name and the adoptive parents listed. We received two copies from the state after the adoption was finalized. You should be able to get a copy from the state.

He needs to contact the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the state where he was born. When he was adopted, they should have issued a birth certificate in the name his adoptive parents gave him.
